Today it was back to Bedford to refit the original Hydragas units to the lovely MG Metro after recharging them and applying our special coating which closely resembles the original zinc plating in appearance and texture. The job went well but just as we removed the pump connector from the rear suspension fluid fill valve it decided it didn’t want to hold the fluid in so we had to quickly reconnect the pump and let the fluid out again! We always carry spare valve cores and a new one was soon fitted and the rear suspension was up to height again. The customer is looking forward to having full enjoyment from the car this summer and it should now ride like new
AUSTIN METRO IN BEDFORD
Today we travelled to Bedford to remove the Hydragas units from this immaculate, unrestored low mileage early MG Metro. This is going to be a two stage operation because the owner is fanatical and wants the original units recharging and recoated in our special coating which closely resembles the original zinc plating, then have us return and refit them rather than having an exchange set fitted. We are happy to do this. This is a returning customer who had us do exactly the same on an immaculate low mileage Applejack Green early Mk1 Metro. Today we removed the units and also unseized the rear knuckle joints from the rods, repacked with grease and refitted ready for when we return next week to refit the units
RACING METRO IN NEWARK
We had a busy day yesterday. Firstly we travelled to Newark where we carried out the fitment of a set of recharged Hydragas units to this racing Metro for a returning customer, we did another Metro for him last year. We were careful to swap over all the parts that gave the car a lowered stance and the suspension was soon as it should be. We then travelled to Hucknall in Nottinghamshire to collect an Austin 1100/1300 Hydrolastic unit before travelling to Dudley to pick a set of Rover Metro units up. By they time we got home we had covered well over 200 miles
We may have left the EU… but buy from us with confidence!
The 1st January 2021 officially saw the United Kingdom (UK) leave the European Union (EU). However, here at Hydragas and Hydrolastic Service Ltd, it’s business as usual, and what’s more we’re paying the customs charges for all orders being shipped from UK.
That means you can order with confidence, the price you pay – really is the price you pay. It’s our way of saying “Thank You” for supporting a small British business.
Need to ask us a question, then drop us an email (or complete our contact form below).
Metro Cabriolet in Telford
Yesterday we fitted a set of recharged Hydragas units to this very nice Rover 100 Cabriolet in Telford (nice to be local for a change!) just in time to go to the show at Gaydon today
Fitting Suspension Pipes to 1100
Yesterday we fitted a set of new front to rear suspension pipes to this early Austin 1100 Mk2 Automatic. One of the pipes had corroded through and the suspension was down to the bump stops on one side, as replacing the pipes properly is a major operation the customer opted to have both pipes replaced. A considerable amount of work was involved, the rear subframe has to be removed, the front subframe complete with engine has to be lowered by a considerable amount and the steering rack dismounted too to get the pipes behind it. The new pipes were supplied by David at Longbridge Motor Spares and they formed and fitted well
Metro Van
Yesterday we travelled to Buckinghamshire to fit a set of recharged Hydragas units to this Metro Van and then on to a town near Milton Keynes to fit a customer’s own Hydrolastic unit to the rear of this VP Princess to replace a leaking one. The customer also gave us two units to take with us to be rehosed, tested, derusted and painted and then returned to him
Metro in Spalding
Today we carried out a fitment of a set of recharged Hydragas units to this Maxi in Basingstoke, Hampshire. When we arrived we were greeted with collapsed suspension on one side and rock hard on the other with no travel. Someone had recently pumped the car up and this had spelt the end for one of the front units which was ruptured and the other was leaking badly, this is what happens when more and more fluid is pumped into the system with the units empty of gas as they all are now. After our work the car now has a lovely ride and lots of well damped travel on the suspension

Allegro in Newport
Today we fitted a set of recharged Hydragas units to this wonderfully solid and original Allegro Estate in Newport, Wales. Heavy rain was the order of the day but work progressed well with everything coming apart and going together as it should, once completed the car was really nice to drive, it has a really good engine and gearbox and our work was the finishing touch
